High Level Steering Committee

There is a High Level Steering Committee (HLSC) under the chairmanship of Chief Statistician of India and Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and comprising of Secretaries of data source Ministries and NITI Aayog as members and Secretaries of other related Ministries as special invitees to periodically review and refine the National Indicator Framework (NIF) for monitoring Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with associated targets.

The Terms of Reference (TOR) of HLSC are

  • To review and refine the National Indicator Framework with a view to add additional indicators, modify or delete the existing indicators.

  • To consider and approve the methodology for computation of new additional and modified national indicators.

  • To constitute sector specific sub-committee viz., Technical Advisory Committee under the chairmanship of Director General, MoSPI, to examine and suggest addition/ deletion/ modification of indicators and their methodology for National Indicator Framework. The recommendation of the Technical Advisory Committee will be submitted to HLSC for its consideration and approval.

  • To suggest and recommend new surveys to collect data for the indicators where data is not available on the recommendation of Technical Advisory Committee.

     

The Committee may co-opt any other Secretary or his representative as a member, whenever necessary for deliberating on the NIF
